Accessible Games for Screen Reader Users
These free browser games are built to work with screen readers: TalkBack on Android, VoiceOver on iPhone and Mac, and NVDA on Windows. The boards use real labeled buttons, every move is read out, and you can play with touch gestures or a keyboard. They are tested with TalkBack on a real Android phone. No download and no sign-up.
How to play with TalkBack
Swipe right or left to move from square to square, and double tap to choose. Each square tells you its position and what is on it. After every move, the game reads out what happened, so you do not need to explore the whole board again. Buttons such as difficulty, hint, undo and new game are regular buttons that TalkBack can find.
Keyboard players
In every game, Tab moves between buttons and Enter or Space chooses. In Chess and Sudoku, the arrow keys also move between squares, and Sudoku accepts the number keys 1 to 9, Backspace to clear and N for notes.
The accessible games
Chess vs AI
Every square reads its name and piece, for example "e2, white pawn". When you choose a piece it tells you where it can move. Your moves and the AI's moves are read out, including captures and check. Hints are spoken too.
▶ Play Chess vs AISudoku
Every square reads its row, column and number, or its notes. Or turn on Number first above the board: choose a number once, then double tap every square where it goes, with no long swiping back and forth. After each number you hear if it is correct or wrong, and how many mistakes are left. Keyboard: arrows to move, 1 to 9 to enter, Backspace to clear, N for notes.
▶ Play SudokuMinesweeper
