Snake Game Tips: How to Beat Your High Score
Snake is easy to learn and genuinely hard to master once your snake gets long. These habits are what separate a short run from a genuinely high score.
1. Hug the edges early
In the early game when your snake is short, looping along the outer edges of the board keeps the maximum amount of open space available in the center for later, when you'll actually need the room to maneuver.
2. Think two moves ahead, not one
The most common way to lose isn't hitting a wall — it's trapping yourself with your own tail. Before turning toward food, check whether the turn after that still leaves you an escape route, especially once the snake is long.
3. Use a repeating pattern once you're long
Experienced players often fall into a loose "boustrophedon" pattern — sweeping back and forth across the board like mowing a lawn — rather than chasing food directly. It's less exciting but dramatically reduces self-trapping.
4. Don't panic-turn near your own tail
A sudden direction change near your own body is the single biggest score-killer. Slow down mentally near tight spaces even though the game itself is speeding up.
Surviving Obstacles mode
Once your score passes 30 in Playnook Games' Snake, red obstacle blocks start appearing and hitting one ends the run instantly, just like hitting yourself. Treat every obstacle block the same way you treat your own tail — as a permanent no-go zone you need to route around, not just something to react to at the last second.
Chase a new high score
Practice the edge-control and pattern-sweeping approach in Playnook Games' Snake, then see how long you last once Obstacles mode kicks in.
