Block Puzzle Strategy: How to Keep the Board Clear

Block Puzzle ends the moment none of your three tray pieces fit anywhere on the board — so the real skill isn't placing pieces well individually, it's keeping the whole board in a shape that stays flexible.

1. Avoid creating single-cell gaps

A lone empty cell surrounded by filled ones can only be filled by a 1x1 piece, which doesn't come up often. Every time you place a piece, check whether it's about to wall off a gap that only one specific shape could ever fix — and if so, look for a different placement.

2. Think about all three tray pieces together

It's easy to place your current piece optimally and only then look at what's left in the tray. Instead, glance at all three pieces before placing any of them, since the order you place them in can be the difference between clearing a line and getting stuck.

3. Chase combos when the board allows it

Clearing more than one row or column at once earns a bonus, but forcing a combo at the cost of leaving awkward gaps elsewhere usually isn't worth it. Take the combo when the board naturally sets one up, but don't distort your placements just to chase one.

4. Use Rotate to fit pieces you'd otherwise waste

An oddly-shaped piece that doesn't fit anywhere in its current orientation often fits perfectly once rotated 90°. Get in the habit of checking a rotation before deciding a piece "doesn't fit right now" — it's the fastest way to avoid wasting good board space.
